Faribault County certainly has its fair share of outstanding senior citizens.

The Outstanding Senior Citizen program held in the tent at the Faribault County Fair on Wednesday, July 23, was proof of that.

Three women and one man from Faribault County were nominated for the special honor, and only one male and one female could be selected.

The nominees for the female category included Judy Meyer, of Kiester, Cathy Oldfather, of Kiester, and Carol Tipler, of Winnebago.

The one male candidate was Frederick Wolff of the Winnebago area.

After telling a little bit about each candidate, the king and queen from last year crowned the new winners.

Meyer, of Kiester, was crowned as the female Outstanding Senior Citizen of Faribault County and Wolff, of Winnebago, for the male title.

"I wish there were three crowns,"?last year's female recipient Peggy Bivins says. "They are all very deserving of this recognition."

The two selected at the Faribault County Fair will have the opportunity to advance on to the Minnesota State Fair later this summer and will be recognized there as well.

Last year's king, Ralph Heaney, commented on his experience with being recognized.

"It was an honor to have the nomination and look forward to passing it on,"?Heaney says.

Bivins agrees and specifically appreciated the opportunity to travel to the State?Fair.

"I wouldn't trade it for anything," Bivins says. "I appreciated being recognized and it is a wonderful memory to have."
