City of BE gets applications

Committee to begin interviews this month

The city of Blue Earth continues to operate with the help of an interim administrator. However, they are continuing their search for a permanent solution.

The City Council received an update on that situation at their meeting last Tuesday.

At the July meeting, a deadline for Nov. 3 was set to have a new administrator hired.

On that timeline, they set a goal for first round interviews to begin from Sept. 6-13, and it seems they aren't too far off from that goal.

"We're aiming for Sept. 20 for initial interviews," mayor Rick Scholtes said.

On that day in September the committee formed at the June meeting will conduct the interviews of six applicants and will then narrow it down to a final three.

The mayor added that last time he checked in on the progress of the applications there had been around 17 or 18 submitted.

Todd Bodem has been filling in since July after the former administrator, Kathy Bailey, resigned in June.

The council also requested an update on the Ag Center inspection which they requested after Bevcomm offered the building as a gift to the city of Blue Earth.

"I emailed the inspector today,"?Bodem said. "It takes about three weeks to complete and we're about a week and a half in. I?will find out for sure and let you know."

The council members wanted to make sure the process was still moving along because as they previously discussed, they are interested in the offer.

"I feel this is time sensitive,"?council member Russ Eichsrud added.

In other business;

The city council used a work session to go over some of the budget proposals prior to the budget hearing which will be held Sept. 15, at 6 p.m.

"This is when we will set our preliminary levy,"?Scholtes said.

The council approved the renewal of a contract with the Faribault County Development Corporation.

The contract has a three-year term for $50,000 a year.

"It hasn't changed except it is for three years rather than two years like the previous contract was,"?FCDC executive director Linsey Warmka said.
