Buccaneer wrestlers down both Saints, Eagles

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers took on both the St. Peter Saints and the New Ulm Eagles on Thursday night, in a triangular held on the Bucs’ home mat.

BEA came out with two victories, defeating St. Peter 42-27 and taking down New Ulm by an almost identical score of 42-22.

The Bucs lost the first two matches to the Saints and trailed 9-0.

But, after Cole Klinkner got a pin at 120 pounds and Camden Bowers won by forfeit at 126, BEA claimed the lead at 12-9.

They were not done building that lead, either.

Zach Buseman won 4-3 at 132 pounds, Jordan Stelter got a pin at 138, Mike Ankeny won by forfeit at 145 and Tannor Wolf got a pin at 152 pounds.

That gave the maroon and gold a commanding lead of 33-9.

The Saints got a pin over Buccaneer Roger Ziegler at 160 pounds and Jesus Quintero lost 12-8 in a hard-fought battle at 170 pounds.

The Saints then trailed 33-18.

Jacob Johnson put BEA ahead 39-18 with a 44-second pin at 182 pounds.

But, Jared Armon lost 12-7 at 195 and Lane Anderson was pinned at 220. That brought the score to 39-27, with only one match to go.

Martin Granados capped off the night with a 7-2 win at 285 pounds to make the final score 42-27 in favor of the Bucs.

BEA 42, New Ulm 22

This time the Buccaneers jumped off to a big lead and never looked back.

Dalton Nagel won by forfeit at 106 pounds, Adam Legred scored a pin at 113 and Cole Klinkner won a close 6-5 battle at 120.

That meant BEA led 15-0.

Camden Bowers lost 9-0 at 126 but Zach Buseman won 4-2 at 132.

Next, both Jordan Stelter at 145 pounds and Mike Ankeny at 145 won by forfeit. The score stood at 30-4.

Tannor Wolf suffered a loss at 152 pounds and so did Roger Ziegler at 160 and Jesus Quintero at 170. Now the score stood at 30-16.

Jacob Johnson scored a pin at 182 pounds, but both Jared Armon at 195 and Lane Anderson at 220 lost, to put the score at 36-22.

Martin Granados won with a pin in 47 seconds of his bout at 285 pounds to cap off the night.

This week the Bucs host Jackson County Central on Tuesday and travel to St. James on Friday and Canby on Saturday.
