By Staff | Feb 6, 2015

The girls put another tally in their win column last Tuesday.

The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team traveled to Jackson County Central where they took on the Huskies.

The game could have ended in a win for either team, but the Buccaneers came out on top with a final score of 31-28.

“Our shooting struggles continued, but we managed to get the win,”?coach Al Cue said.

In fact, the Huskies had the lead in their hands when the first half ended. They had a score of 17-16 on the scoreboard going into the bottom half of the game.

“But, the girls defended very well and kept JCC at a point where we could win,”?Cue added.

The maroon and gold kept the Huskies within their reach the whole time and ultimately only allowed the opposing team to score 11 more points in the second half while the Bucs brought in 15 more points.

“Once again, defense prevailed in this one,” Cue said.

The Bucs grabbed a total of 26 rebounds, 16 steals and nine assists.

They also scored a total of 31 points in the form of 10 2-pointers, one from behind the arc and eight free-throw shots.

Paige Darrington led the Bucs by grabbing eight rebounds and scoring six points. She scored the only Buc 3-pointer and had one 2-point shot and one free throw.

Taylor Grandgenett also scored six points for the Bucs. She had four successful free-throw shots and one from the field. She also had three rebounds and two steals.

Caitlyn Rorman also grabbed six points with three 2-pointers. She had four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Karli Olsen had three 2-pointers totalling six points for the maroon and gold.

The Bucs won; however, they were only 10 of 35 from the 2-point range, 1 of 11 from behind the arc and 8 of 17 for free-throw shots.

“We will continue to work hard in practice and hopefully get things turned around on the offensive end of the floor,”?Cue said.

The Bucs played again in St. Peter on Friday night. That game was after the Faribault County Register deadline, and results will be featured in the next issue.
