Karen McCarthy, 74

Little Falls Karen McCarthy, 74 year old resident of Little Falls, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral service were held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls, the Rev. Dan Thompson officiated. Burial took place in the Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.

Karen was born on March 20, 1941 in Minneapolis, to the late Harold and Gladys (Ostrom) Larson. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. Karen made her home in South St. Paul where she worked for Local Loan in St. Paul later moving to Blue Earth, where she was employed by Telex Communications and Red Owl Grocery. In 1983 she moved to Little Falls to care for her elderly parents. While living in Little Falls Karen was employed at Northern Cap from 1995 until retiring in 2000. For the last 11 years, Karen had shared her life with soulmate, Ron Whiteman, and had never been happier in her life. Karen dedicated her life to always caring for those around her that she so dearly loved. Her warmth and energy made everyone feel welcome at her home, and always loved when her home was full of family and friends. Karen also enjoyed, crafts, reading, crocheting, traveling, garage sales, making beautiful greeting cards, but especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Karen was known as “Granny” by many friends and family. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Karen is survived by children, Kimberly (Ken) Perry, of Little Falls, Terry (Becky) McClain, of Little Falls, Christy (Brian) Dalen, of Little Falls and BJ (Wanda Neher) McCarthy, of Lakeville; granddaughters, Ashley (John) Posterick, Mandy (Brad) McSwain, Kala (Aaron) Sowers, Alexis Ropp, Hailey Rose Ropp, Morgan Neher and Tashina Perry; grandsons, Steven (Bethany) Dalen, Tim McClain, Ryan (Tasha) Smock, Trevor Smock, Dalton (Heather Manlick) McClain, Bryce McClain, Teagan Dalen, Ethan Dalen and Kenny Perry Jr; 12 great-grandchildren; and specials friends, Rob and Patti Esse family.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys Larson; brother, Gordon Ostrom; and infant son, Timothy (twin to Christy).

Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
