By Staff | Dec 6, 2015

BEA Buccanneers Blake Barnett...

The Blue Earth Area’s boys basketball team could just not catch up to the United South Central boys last Thursday night.

BEA’s Alan Davids made the first score of the night, but just minutes after his two-point shot, USC scored, then scored again, and again. Ten minutes into the game, USC had an eight point lead on the Bucs.

The Bucs made an earnest effort to catch up with the Rebels, with scoring by Blake Barnett, and Jacob Vaske that brought the Bucs closer, with the score 15-12 in favor of USC.

But the Rebels did not stop there. They continued to rack up points, sinking field goals and free throws left and right.

BEA worked hard at getting rebounds and bringing the ball back into their possession, but with missed shots during the maroon and gold’s possessions, USC began to rack up more and more points, getting a 13 point lead by the end of the first half, 35-22.

Bailey Olson...

In the second half, Blue Earth continued to work hard, but was unable to ever get very close.

USC continued to pull ahead, scoring two free throws, three field goals, and two three pointers, giving them a commanding 21 point lead just 13 minutes into the second half.

The Buccaneers got some additional scoring from Blake Barnett, Bailey Olson, Chris Sanders and Logan Jahnke, but it was not enough to catch up to USC.

The final score of the game was 61-45, with the Rebels taking the win.

Brandon Olson and Tyler Hannaman led the Buccaneers with 11 points each. Barnett added eight points and Bailey Olson six.

...and Chandler Kienitz were all soaring high during the Bucs game against St. James last Tuesday.

As a team the Bucs shot 42 percent from the floor (18 of 43) and 54 percent from the charity stripe (7 of 13).

The Rebels shot 55 percent from the floor (24 of 44) and 47 percent from the free-throw line.

USC had four players hit double digits in the scoring column.

Leading the way was Ryan Kloos with 16 points. Both Trevor Stencel and Grant Becher had 12 points each. And, Ryan Pederson had 11 points.

Next up for the Buccaneers this week is a home game against the Fairmont Cardinals on Friday in Blue Earth.

BEA 61, St. James 57

It was a battle to the end.

The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team almost had a 10 point lead at the end of their game against St. James last Tuesday, Dec. 1.

But, the game was actually close much of the time, with the score tied up multiple times, including at the end of the first half.

Two of St. James’ players fouled out in the second half of the game, giving the Bucs an opportunity to take a commanding lead.

During the first half of the game, Tyler Hannaman made three field goals and one three-pointer with Bailey Olson helping out the Bucs by making three field goals.

Blake Barnett was also on his A-game as he made three of his four free throws in the first half, and sank another two-pointer for the Buccaneers. St. James was trailing close behind, and tied things up 29-29.

At the half, the Saints already had a total of 14 fouls on their team, including three players with three personal fouls each.

In the second half, as St. James continued to rack up fouls, having players Sandin Skow and Dylan Nelson foul out for the game, the Bucs were able to pull ahead of the Saints.

In the second half, Hannaman sank seven points for BEA, with eight more points from Olson.

Chandler Kienitz also assisted in bringing the Bucs ahead in the game, scoring two two-pointers, while Brandon Olson made both of his free throws and sank another three-pointer.

Hannaman and Bailey Olson were the top scorers for the BEA boys; Bailey Olson bringing in a total of 20 points for the team, with Hannaman scoring 18 points.

The final score for the game was 66-57. A first win for the Buccaneer boy’s basketball season.
