Despite a crowd of Rebel basketball players surrounding her, Blue Earth Area’s Caitlin Rorman reaches up in an attempt for a two-point shot for the Buccaneers during their first game of the season.

The Buccaneer girls basketball team sure knows how to start the season with a little excitement.

The Blue Earth Area team traveled to Wells to take on the United South Central Rebels in the first game of the season.

And while the maroon and gold can now boast a win after defeating their cross-county rivals by 11 points, the game held excitement of it’s own.

The first half of the game showed the two teams were playing on a level playing field.

But, all eyes were on the scoreboard when the two teams came within just points of each other as the end of the first half drew near.

The Bucs managed to sneak ahead by just one point, ending the first half with a score of 17 to 16.

BEA was 5 for 14 from the two-point line and 2 for 10 from the three-point line at the end of the first half and sank one free-throw shot for the extra point.

The maroon and gold was then able to go into the second half of the game with the upper hand.

This half they scored 24 points while the Rebels only managed to bring in an additional 14 points.

This gave BEA?the win, 41-30.

The Bucs were 10 for 27 from the two-point line, 4 for 22 from behind the arc and 9 for 17 with their free throws.

The girls also had 25 rebounds, 12 offensive and 13 defensive, and had seven steals and only 12 turnovers.

USC’s struggle in the game turned out to be the amount of turnovers they had. They turned over 23 times as opposed to the Bucs who had about half that amount.

However, USC did have 27 rebounds, were 8 of 24 with their two pointers, 2 of 7 with three pointers and 8 of 11 on free throws.

The top scorer for the Buccaneers was Caitlin Rorman who racked up a total of 15 points during their game against the Rebels.
