Bucs down Eagles for a 2-win streak
The girls are on a roll after getting a second win under their belts.
The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team hosted the New Ulm Eagles Friday, Dec. 4 in their second game of the season.
“The girls played a very good overall game,” Buc coach Al Cue said.
And they certainly did, sneaking ahead of the visitors at the end of the game to nab the win with a five-point lead.
The maroon and gold defeated the Eagles 49-44, but the game was close enough it could have gone either way.
The first half of the game ended with just a three-point difference, luckily landing in BEA’s favor.
Then, going into the second half with a score of 17-14, the Bucs were able to continue their momentum.
They tallied 32 more points, while the Eagles only had 30 additional points, which made for a very close final score for the two teams.
“Had we been able to make some more free throws late in the game, it would not have been so close,”?Cue said.
The Bucs were only at a 33 percent accuracy when it came to making their shots from the free-throw line, sinking 7 of 21 attempts.
The Eagles who were at a 70 percent rate from the line making a successful 12 of 17.
But, coach Cue still felt the team played a good game of basketball.
“The girls played a very good overall game,” he said. “Our defense was solid throughout, and we had moments of good offense as well.”
As a team the Bucs sank a total of 18 out of 38 shots from the field for a 47 percentage rate.
BEA also managed to out do New Ulm in the form of shots from behind the arc. The Bucs had a successful 6 of 16 three-point shot rate.
The Eagles were 14 of 49 with their two-point attempts and 4 of 24 with their three-point shots.
The Buccaneers seemed to really runaway with the game when it came to rebounds. They grabbed a total of 35 rebounds, 28 on defense and seven on offense.
One maroon and gold player stood out in this regard.
Paige Darrington grabbed a total of 18 rebounds during the Bucs’ game against the Eagles; three on offense and 15 defense.
“Paige’s 18 rebounds is an amazing stat,”?Cue added.
While Darrington led the team in rebounds, she also scored a total of seven points for BEA. She was 3 of 7 with her two-point shots and 1 for 3 from the free-throw line.
Caitlin Rorman led the team in scoring, racking up a total of 12 points. She scored those points by way of four two-point shots, two three-point shots and two free throws.
Rorman also had four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Sam Barslou was not far behind, scoring 11 points. She was 3 for 9 with her two-point field goals, 3 for 8 from behind the arc and 2 for 4 from the free-throw line.
