Bucs take 5th at Riot

One win, one loss.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team traveled to New Prague last Tuesday for a triangular meet. The Bucs split, winning one match and losing the other.

BEA first suffered a close 39-32 loss at the hands of the host New Prague Trojans, then came back and took a 41-30 victory over the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants.

New Prague 39, BEA 32

Against the Trojans, the Buccaneers built up an early lead, but then stalled and ended up with the loss.

Caden Ochsendorf started the night with a pin at 106 pounds, giving BEA a 6-0 lead. Joe Schavey lost a tight 6-4 match at 113 pounds.

Then Dalton Nagel won 10-3 at 120 pounds, Adam Legred got a pin at 126 and Camden Bowers pinned his opponent in 58 seconds at 132.

The Bucs led 20-3.

Cole Klinkner lost a long 19-11 contest at 138 pounds, but Zach Buseman came back with a pin at 145.

Now BEA led 26-7. But, the Bucs had a scoring drought while the Trojans score 23 unanswered points.

Jordan Stelter (152), Wyatt Tungland (160), Roger Ziegler (170), Jesus Quintero (182) and Jordan Huse (195), all lost, and New Prague took over the lead at 33-26.

The Buccaneers came back with a win at 220 pounds when Jared Armon pinned his opponent and the Bucs now trailed by just one, 33-32.

But, at 285 pounds, Darrel Raney was pinned by his New Prague opponent and the Trojans took the victory, 39-32.

BEA 41, LS-H 30

BEA jumped ahead early against the Giants of Le Sueur-Henderson and built up a commanding 35-0 lead.

Caden Ochsendorf won by forfeit at 106 pounds, Joe Schavey won by a pin at 113 and so did Dalton Nagel at 120 and Adam Legred at 126 (30 seconds).

Camden Bowers won by a 10-3 score at 132 pounds and Cole Klinkner won by a 20-16 score at 138.

Zach Buseman’s pin at 145 pounds gave the Bucs their 35-0 lead.

Ryle McGuire battled his way to a 10-10 tie at 152 pounds, but then lost 2-0 in the overtime period. Jordan Stelter fell 5-2 at 160 pounds and Roger Ziegler lost by a fall at 170.

That made the score 35-12.

Jesus Quintero came up with a pin at 182 pounds giving the maroon and gold their final points and the lead at 41-12.

The Giants scored pins against Jordan Huse at 195 pounds, Darrel Raney at 220 and Damian Cornelio at 285, making the final tally 41-30.

BEA 5th at Redwood

It was a wrestling riot.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team fared well at the 2015 Redwood River Riot in Redwood Falls on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18 and 19.

Despite not placing any members of the team as first place champions, the Buccaneers came home with fifth place out the 31 teams at the tournament.

The maroon and gold had one wrestler in second, third and fourth place, two in sixth and another one in eighth, giving them a team total of 120.50 and sole possession of fifth place.

Dalton Nagel was the Bucs’ top wrestler, gaining that second place finish at 120 pounds. Jordan Stelter was the Buccaneer in third place at 152 pounds.

It was Jared Armon, now ranked No. 5 at 195 pounds, who came in at fourth place, while both Caden Ochsendorf at 106 pounds and Zach Buseman at 145 came in at sixth place. Buseman is ranked No. 8 in Class A at 138 pounds.

Joe Schavey also placed for the Buccaneers, coming in at eighth place at 113 pounds.

Worthington won the Redwood River Riot with 146 points. Sibley East was second at 143.50, KMS third at 130 and Sartell fourth at 126.

United South Central was also at the big tournament and came out at 19th place with 65 points.

The Rebels had one champion and one wrestler in sixth place and one in seventh.

Other area wrestling teams were also at the tourney, including Fairmont-Martin County West in eighth place with 107 points and Maple River in 15th place with 72 points.

BEA 64, New Ulm 7

It was never really even close.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team traveled to New Ulm on Thursday night, Dec. 17, and came back home with a Big South Conference victory.

The Bucs downed the Eagles 64-7.

Caden Ochsendorf got things rolling right away for the Buccaneers, when he pinned Cole Ranweiler in 3:32 at 106 pounds.

Joe Schavey received six points for a forfeit at 113 pounds, Dalton Nagel pinned the Eagles Rebekah Hoppe at 120 pounds in 3:313 and Adam Legred received a forfeit at 126 pounds.

All that put BEA in a commanding lead at 24-0.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard when Sean Howk defeated Buccaneer Camden Bowers 4-2 at 132 pounds.

BEA came right back with a major decision, 13-2, when Cole Klinkner defeated Hunter Ranweiler at 138 pounds.

Zach Buseman pinned his man, Max Deslauriers, in 5:53 at 145 pounds and Jordan Stelter pinned Tanner Stark in 4:55 at 152.

Wyatt Tungland had the big battle of the night. He and the Eagles Nick Mehlop were tied 6-6 after regulation in their 160 bout. Tungland took the win with a 2-0 score in the overtime period.

Now BEA had a 43-3 lead.

Roger Ziegler lost to Matt Hartley, 9-1, at 170 pounds to give New Ulm four more team points.

The Buccaneers cruised the rest of the way.

Jesus Quintero pinned Peter Klimek in 1:12 at 182 pounds, Jordan Huse received a forfeit at 195, Jared Armon won a close battle, 3-2, over Nathan Berg at 220 and Trevor Oppedal finished things up for BEA with a pin at 2:33 at 285.
