Buc girls fall to Waseca Bluejays

The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team took on the Waseca Bluejays last Friday, Dec. 18.

Despite a close game, the win ultimately ended up with the Bluejays with a final score of 57-54.

“Waseca is a good team and we played them even,”?Buccaneer coach Al Cue said. “But unfortunately, we broke down on defense too often and gave them easy baskets.”

Blue Earth Area sank a total of 18 of 43 for 42 percent accuracy rate.

Six of 14 three-point shot attempts were made for a 43 percent accuracy rate.

The maroon and gold also sank 12 of 18 shots from the free-throw line for a 67 percent rate.

“We also turned the ball over too many times,”?Cue said.

The Bucs had a total of 23 turnovers compared to Waseca’s 15 turnovers.

However, the girls were successful in getting under the basket and grabbing rebounds. BEA had 32 while their opponents only managed 24 rebounds.

Shayna Stevermer led the team in rebounds grabbing an impressive 10.

Karli Olsen and Sam Barslou also snagged five rebounds each during the Bucs’ matchup against the Bluejays.

“On the positive side, we shot the ball much better in this game,”?Cue added.

Barslou led the team in scoring racking up a total of 21 points for the maroon and gold.

Not far behind, Caitlin?Rorman scored a total of 15 points. She also accounted for three assists.

Olsen accounted for seven points during the game and also had six assists and four steals.

Paige Darrington tallied six points for the Buccaneers. Stevermer and Ann Franta both scored two points each.

“We are glad we will get the chance to play Waseca again,”?added Cue.
