The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer baseball team prevailed over the Worthington Trojans, 6-4, on May 1. It was the first win of the season for the maroon and gold.

The ballgame featured a six inning pitching performance from Buc starter Hunter Bleess. He was able to strike out six Worthington batters while walking just two, and surrendered four earned runs in the process.

Meanwhile, Blue Earth Area's Gavin Storbeck slammed the door on Worthington's comeback hopes by tossing a scoreless final inning.

Bobby Lindsey, pictured on the mound, helped the Bucs to a 6-4 victory over the Worthington Trojans on May 1. The senior hit a double and a triple, and also scored two runs in BEA’s first win of the 2018 season.

Offensively, the Buccaneers were aided by contributions throughout the lineup. Leadoff hitter and center fielder Joe Schavey went 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored. Cleanup hitter and catcher Karson Legred was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and drew two base on balls.

From the number nine spot in the lineup, shortstop Bobby Lindsey also stepped up with two extra base hits which included a double and a triple. The senior also scored two runs for the Bucs.

On May 4, the Buccaneers traveled to St. James for their contest against the Saints. Results of that game will be available in next week's edition of the Faribault County Register.

The Buccaneers were beaten soundly by the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars on the road last Monday in five innings.

BEA pitching allowed five earned runs and surrendered nine hits and nine walks in the game. Third baseman Koby Nagel was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a run batted in for the Buccaneers.

Playing in Winnebago, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers dropped both games of their April 27 double- header against the New Ulm Eagles.

In the first game, BEA was defeated 12-2. Starting Buc pitcher Gavin Storbeck did well on the mound as he tossed five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits. However, Buc relievers Trevor Oppedal and Koby Nagel combined to surrender six runs in two innings of work.

As the final score would indicate, it was a struggle offensively for the Buccaneers as well. Left fielder Jordan Huse, center fielder Joe Schavey, first baseman Bradyn Barnett and shortstop Bobby Lindsey accounted for all four of the Buccaneers' hits in the ballgame. No Blue Earth Area hitter recorded an extra base hit in the contest.

The Buccaneers fared better in the second game of their double-header with New Ulm, but still lost 11-6. Jared Kennedy pitched an inning and a third for the Bucs, allowing four earned runs. Meanwhile, fellow Buccaneer hurler Hunter Bleess pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs. Offensively, Bleess was able to add a pair of singles in the five inning contest.
