USC nets first victory against TCU

USC 5, TCU 2

The United South Central Rebels girls tennis team bounced back from a close loss in their first match of the year, and defeated the Tri-City United (TCU) girls 5-2 on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 3.

The Rebels lost just one singles and one doubles match on their way to the victory at the away meet.

Alyson Swanson suffered a close loss during a long, hard-fought battle at No. 1 singles. She fell 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to Josie Plut of TCU.

The Rebels' Delaney Weber took a 6-2, 6-1, win over Monserrat Ruiz at No. 2 singles. It was Elizabeth Romano claiming a 6-2, 7-6, win at No. 3 singles over Morgan Mueller, and Kelsie Chapman notched a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sami Tiede at No. 4 singles.

Rebel twin sisters Macy Zebro and Maya Zebro teamed up at No. 1 doubles to take on Gabby Prochaska and Rachel Rynda. The Zebro sisters won by a score of 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, the Rebel duo of Lauren Zebro and Olivia Schwartz took on Mackenzie Holmbo and Emma Traener and came out with a similar 6-4, 6-3, win.

Hannah Olson and Brooklyn Yokiel lost a close first set of their match by 7-6, to Allie Schley and Savannah Squires at No. 3 doubles, and then fell 6-1 in the second set.

The USC girls had played a rescheduled match on Saturday, Sept. 12, against Southwest Christian.

The team then goes on the road to take on Sibley East Tuesday, Sept. 15, before traveling to Le Sueur to battle the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants on Thursday, Sept. 17.
