WARROAD, Minn. (AP) — An organization that works to end racism in sports is backing off its threat to sue a Minnesota school district over use of the Warriors name and logo.

Henry Boucha is an Olympic silver medalist and a former professional hockey player who is an Ojibwe American Indian from Warroad. Boucha spoke to the board of the National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media on Monday about the history of the Warroad Warriors.

The coalition threatened the school district with a lawsuit earlier this month, but has now apologized and rescinded that threat. Boucha tells Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/VCzChD ) that Warroad is historically significant to the Ojibwe and Anishinabe because of skirmishes that took place along the war trail. Boucha says a distant relative sold Warroad the land for its first school.
