The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls basketball team defeated the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers to win the Section 2AA Championship on Friday night in Mankato.

The final score of the game was 43-38. The Bucs were down by seven points at half, but went on a 15-0 run to open the second half.

With 12.7 seconds left they led by only one, 39-38. Ashley Olson sank two free throws, stole the inbound pass and made a layup to seal the victory.

The win propels the girls into the State Girls Basketball Tournament. They will face the state’s No. 1 ranked team, Jordan, at 8 p.m. Wednesday night at the Target Center.
