Update on fatal house fire – click here for new details

Blue Earth firefighters battle a blaze at 914 East First Street early Sunday morning, May 6.

A house fire in Blue Earth early Sunday morning has resulted in two fatalities.

The fire occurred at 4:47 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, at 914 East First Street in Blue Earth, according to information from the Faribault County Sheriff’s office.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found Rudy Carmona, age 39, of Blue Earth, and Fidel Bello, age 47, Elmore, deceased on the living room floor. Carmona was the owner of Rudy’s Roofing in Blue Earth.

Initial investigation indicates the cause of the fire may have originated from a lightning strike to the northwest corner of the home. There were not any functioning smoke detectors in the residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s office, Blue Earth Police Department, Blue Earth Fire Department, UHD Ambulance, Winnebago Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall’s office assisted at the scene.
