Highway 109 construction, detour begin July 9

Traffic detoured to I-90

Motorists on Highway 109 from Winnebago to west of Easton will be detoured beginning July 9 as crews begin to reconstruct the highway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be detoured to Highway 169, Interstate 90 and Faribault County Road 17. Access will be provided to residents along the route; however, they must access Highway 109 at the closest cross road to their residence. Traveling around a road closed sign is illegal and may result in 90 days in jail and/or $1000 fine.

The project consists of restoring or reclaiming the old pavement, placing new asphalt and making culvert improvements.

Motorists will experience a smoother and safer ride when the project is complete in early September. MnDOT plans to restore Highway 109 from Delavan to Wells in 2014.

Ulland Brothers of Albert Lea is the contractor on the $7,093,330 project.
