Slough fire

By Staff | Nov 3, 2008

Some 50 firefighters from four area fire departments battled a slough fire Thursday afternoon and into the night.

Delavan Fire Chief Dennis Wick says officials received a call around 2:30 p.m. of a fire about three miles northwest of Delavan near Rice Lake.

He says the cause is still unknown and no one was injured.

“The wind gave us some trouble. It made the fire spread a little fast,” says Wick.

In all, the fire chief says about 120 acres of slough were burned, which is owned by several private landowners.

Wick says it took firefighters about seven hours to bring the blaze under control.

Fire departments responding to the scene were Delavan, Easton, Blue Earth and Winnebago.
