A 29-year-old Blue Earth man awaiting trial for charges stemming from a six-hour standoff with authorities is facing new legal woes.

Kevin Robert Karl has been charged with one count of making terroristic threats and harassment.

According to a complaint filed in court, Karl’s ex-girlfriend alleges receiving a threatening cell phone call from him around 3:37 p.m. on March 4 while at her parents residence in Elmore.

The complaint says Karl was unhappy about vehicles the two parties possess.

Karl became upset with his ex-girlfriend, says the complaint, and allegedly threatened her and her family.

The terroristic threats charge carries a maximum penalty of five years and a $10,000 fine, while harassment is one year and a $3,000 fine.

In January, Karl waived his right to challenge any pre-trial issues during an omnibus hearing. He was arrested in the early morning hours of Aug. 8 after he allegedly got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend at his rural Blue Earth residence.

The woman called 911 when Karl allegedly fired a gun several times and threatened her. The couple’s 5-year-old daughter was inside the residence and the woman told authorities she feared for her safety.

He was charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and reckless discharge of a gun.

Karl was released after posting $5,000 cash.
