Authorities nab men suspected in burglaries, thefts

By Staff | Apr 13, 2009

County authorities are saying several small burglaries and thefts occurring in area towns have been solved with the arrest of two 18-year-old men.

Mower County authorities arrested Justin Lee Roberts of Wells and Lee Thomas Huston of Albert Lea and formerly of Kiester.

Faribault County authorities say the men were apprehended Tuesday following a routine traffic stop.

Investigator Terry Campbell says Roberts and Huston will be charged with up to 16 burglaries in the Wells, Kiester and Bricelyn area.

“They have been on this spree since February,” says Campbell.

Gormley says the men also were involved in several thefts from vehicles in Wells.

“They busted in windows and took electronic items,” Gormley says.

Roberts and Huston were suspects in burglaries and thefts in five Minnesota counties — Faribault, Mower, Freeborn, Rock and Waseca — and five Iowa counties.

“Evidence compiled from Faribault County was compared with some from Waseca County and it was similar,” Gormley says.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, Roberts and Huston are being held in Mower County Jail pending further charges.

Law enforcement agencies assisting Faribault County in the investigation were the Wells Police Department; Waseca, Freeborn and Mower counties sheriff departments; and several county agencies in Iowa.
