Group proposing charter school in Winnebago
Keeping the elementary school open in Winnebago could depend on whether a group’s efforts to turn it into a charter school are successful.
Former Winne-bago and Blue Earth school board member Steve Schon-rock and Winne-bago Chamber President Scott Robertson updated Blue Earth Area School District officials on their proposal Monday night.
“We’ve studied this for quite awhile. It has not been a fly by night idea. The opportunity is out there to give this a very good chance of working,” says Schonrock, a spokesman for the group.
He says right now the group is at the “exploratory stage” and is asking the school district to serve as a sponsor.
