Sex offender arrested after not reporting
Just five days after they held a public meeting about a Level 3 sex offender being in Faribault County, the sheriff’s office arrested the man.
Ronald John Madsen had registered in Faribault County as a homeless Level 3 sex offender on June 18.
As part of the registration, Madsen was required to check in with the sheriff’s office once a week to verify his homeless status.
By Friday, June 26, he had failed to check in. A warrant for his arrest was issued for registration violations. He was picked up on Monday, June 29, and is currently being held in the Faribault County Jail.
It was on Wednesday, June 24 that the sheriff’s office held a public informational meeting as required when a Level 3 offender moves into a neighborhood.
At that time, the sheriff’s office told the 30 people in attendance that if Madsen did not check in weekly, or violated other provisions, he would be arrested.
Madsen was living in Woods Lake Park near Elmore since moving into the county. Sheriff’s deputies looked for him over the weekend. He was arrested on Monday after he made a call to the sheriff in the morning.
Madsen appeared in Faribault County District Court on Monday afternoon and was charged with a felony count of sex offender registration violation. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
