The Blue Earth Area wrestling team went 4-0 at the Wolfpack Duals in Cottage Grove on Saturday, Dec. 12, to win the team title.
In the first round, the Bucs defeated Park JV 62-9 and then Goodhue 60-12.
The Bucs downed Chatfield 48-18 in the third round to advance to the finals against host Park High School.
BEA defeated the Wolfpack 36-24 to win the team trophy.
“The kids were ready to wrestle. Especially in that last match,” says head coach Randy Wirtjes. “We had big come-from-behind wins from Gronewald, Han-son and Cody that helped us beat Park.”

The four wins improve BEA’s season dual meet record to 5-0.
Four wrestlers had perfect 4-0 records for the day.
At 103, Travis Hage-dorn had a pin and major decision among his wins.
Jake Wirtjes (119) and Taylor Andrews (215) each had two falls.
At 130 pounds, D.J. Gronewald recorded two pins and a major decision, while Joe Franta had a pair of major decisions at 140 and also picked up his 75th career win.Senior 171-pounder Daniel Eckhardt also achieved a milestone with his 100th career win.

In perhaps the marquee match of the day, Daniel Eckhardt lost a close 3-1 decision to Park’s Jared Flaata, ranked No. 3 in Class AAA. Eckhardt entered the match ranked No. 10 in Class A.
