W’bago narrows list to 6

The Winnebago City Council will be busy the next couple of weeks.

Tuesday they’ll meet in regular session and two days later they will hold a special meeting to begin interviewing finalists for the city administrator’s position.

Councilman Dana Gates says he and Mayor Randy Nowak spent nearly three hours reviewing some 23 applications and narrowed the list to six.

“It was real tough. We tried to pick those with an appropriate mix of work experience and education,” he says. “There were many who are well qualified.”

The finalists are:

• Ted A. Schoonover of Red Oak, Iowa;

• Sarah Friesen of Mountain Lake;

• Matthew Kline of Hudson, Wis.;

• Johanna Marzinske of Mankato;

• Mark A. Baker of Holstein, Iowa;

• and Kenneth R. Bucholz of Red Wing.

Each candidate will be interviewed by the full council.

Gates says the interviews will be open to the open and will begin at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at the Municipal Center.

From the six, three will be picked for a second interview, which will be held on April 20.

City officials hope to have someone hired by the regular meeting in May.
