Scholtes resigns from BE Council
Blue Earth City Councilman Rick Scholtes submitted his resignation from the council last week, effective as of Friday, May 7.
With the death of Councilman Dick Maher on May 2, there are now two empty seats on the council.
Scholtes had previously announced his intention to resign his Third Ward seat, as he was moving to a new home located in the First Ward.
“I finally made the move, so I went in and told (City Administrator) Kathy Bailey, and submitted my resignation,” Scholtes says.
The now former Third Ward councilman says he hopes to be considered to fill Maher’s First Ward position.“Either way, it is my intention to file and run for the First Ward seat in this coming November election,” he says. “I have enjoyed my time on the council and working with the other council members and the residents of Blue Earth, and I would like to continue to do so.”
Scholtes was appointed to the council in November of 2006 to fill the seat vacated by Travis Keister.
In 2007 he was-elected to the council for a term which started in January, 2008, and runs through 2012.
Filling the two council seats is expected to be a main topic at Monday night’s regular City Council meeting.
