School, city filing opens Aug. 3

Anyone thinking about running for a city office or school board has only two weeks to decide.

Filing opens on Aug. 3 and closes Aug. 17. Persons interested in being a candidate must pay a $2 fee.

Blue Earth residents will be electing four councilmembers in November.

Seats currently held by Les Wiborg of Ward 2 and Dan Brod of Ward 3 are up for election for a four-year term.

Paula Kelly, who was recently appointed to fill a vacancy in Ward 3, must decide if she wants to run for a two-year term.

Residents of Ward 1 will elect someone to a four -year term to fill the vacancy created with the death of Dick Maher.

In Wells, Mayor Shannon Savick and councilmen Mike Weber and Ron Gaines positions will be on the November ballot.

The mayor’s post is for two years and the council seats are each four-year terms.

Winnebago Mayor Randy Nowak must decide if he wants to serve another two years.

Seats held by Dana Gates and Holly Stauffer also are up for election.

Gates’ position is for four years and Stauffer, two years.

Elmore residents will be electing a new mayor.

Incumbent Floyd Ford indicated in April he would not seek re-election and then resigned in June, after serving two two-year terms.

Four-year term council seats held by Keven Sullivan and Jim Volz also are up for election.

Sullivan has been the acting-mayor since Ford submitted his resignation.

Blue Earth Area School District has four incumbents up for re-election, Mary Eckhardt; Vicki Hanson; Jesse Haugh; and Terry Cahill.

United South Central has three seats up for election, incumbents Kari Jacobson and Chris Olson, and Nancy Ulrich — who was appointed in July to serve the months remaining on Ron Korn’s term.

All school board seats are four-year terms.
