They want to serve
Candidates have begun filing for area city and school board elections on Nov. 2.
For the Ward 1 seat in Blue Earth, Rick Scholtes and Corey Survis have filed.
Seats held by Les Wiborg in Ward 2, and in Ward 3 by Dan Brod and Paula Kelly, are up for election. No one has yet filed for re-election, however Russell Erichsrud filed for the Ward 2 seat.
All council seats are four-year terms, except Kelly’s which is for two years.
In Wells, three have filed for council seats held by Mike Weber and Ron Gaines.
Ann Marie Schuster, Jim Durfee and Jerry Schroeder are seeking the four-year term seats. Weber has not filed.
Gaines has decided not to seek re-election, but is running for mayor.
Mayor Shannon Savick has not yet filed for the two-year position.
There will be at least a two-way race for mayor in Elmore.
Acting Mayor Keven Sullivan will be opposed by Bill Hurd for the two-year post.
Sullivan’s and Jim Volz’s four-year term council seats will be on the ballot. Volz has not yet filed.
No one has filed for re-election in Winnebago.
Mayor Randy Nowak must decide if he wants to serve another two years.
Four-year term seats held by Dana Gates and Holly Stauffer also will be on the ballot.
In school board races only two people have filed.
Terry Cahill is seeking another four years on the Blue Earth Area School Board. Other seats up for election are held by Vicki Hanson, Mary Eckhardt and Jesse Haugh.
In the United South Central School District, Chris Olson has filed for another four-year term on the board.
So far, current board members Kari Jacobson and Nancy Ulrich have not filed.
Anyone interested in filing for city council positions may do so at the respective city halls, while those wishing to run for school board may file at the district office.
The deadline to file is Tuesday, Aug. 17 and there is a $2 fee.
