Faribault County authorities believe icy conditions may have been the cause of a fatal car-train accident.

It appears icy road conditions were the cause of a fatal accident on Saturday, Feb. 26, near Frost.

Around 11:43 a.m. the Faribault County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a car-train accident.

Sheriff Mike Gormley says when he and deputy Todd Duit arrived on the scene they found the car was occupied by one person.

Authorities identified the victim as 53-year-old Donavon Johnson of Frost.

“There was a stop sign at the railroad crossing. It looks like he tried to stop, but couldn’t,” says Gormley.

The sheriff says Johnson’s vehicle was struck on the door of the driver’s side.

Gormley says the accident occurred at the intersection of 480th Avenue and 60th Street.

He says Johnson apparently was on his way home.

The Frost Ambulance, Frost and Bricelyn fire departments also assisted at the scene.
