BE Chamber hires new executive
The newly hired executive director of the Blue Earth Area Chamber of Commerce is excited and eager to get started. But, she has to wait about a week before taking the post.
Cindy Lyon was hired on May 11 by the board of directors, but will officially start her duties on May 24.
Lyon, an Elmore native, has worked in Blue Earth since 1974. She moved here in 1998 with her husband, Bruce and two sons.
“I am very happy to have been chosen to be the chamber executive director,” Lyon says. “It is very exciting.”
Chamber board president Tom Juba says there were over 20 applicants, and that nine people were interviewed.
“There were many good candidates,” Juba says. “But, Cindy stood out. She is already very involved in the community and in the chamber.”
Lyon, a master gardener who works at Gartzke’s Greenhouse, has been in charge of several chamber projects. Among those are the garden tours during Giant Days, the Yard of the Week awards during the summer, and planting and caring for the large chamber flower pots on Main Street.
The new chamber director has been a Blue Earth business owner, operating her Simple Pleasures tea house for three years.
