Wells, W’bago receive $534K grant
Wells and Winnebago have partnered to receive a $534,750 federal grant funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Grant money will be used for rehabilitating housing and commercial properties.
A total of 15 housing units and five commercial properties in Wells and Winnebago will benefit from the funds.
Wells took the lead in the process applying for the grant last April and will receive 10 housing rehabilitations and four commercial rehabilitations. Winnebago partnered with the neighboring community to receive five housing rehabilitations and one commercial improvement.
Currently, the application pool to receive the grant has been closed and all of the monies available are spoken for.
Those who did apply in time for the grant filled out a survey with their name, address, phone number and income limits. With a large response, not everyone who applied will receive a part of the grant.
Wells and Winnebago earned the grant money as part of an $18.5 million grant package awarded and distributed to 51 communities in the state by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
Grants were available to cities with populations under 50,000 and counties with total populations under 200,000.
