BE’s Bailey gets satisfactory marks
Overall, Blue Earth City Administrator Kathy Bailey received a satisfactory evaluation at last Monday night’s City Council meeting.
However, one area – communication between the administrator and the council – was listed as needing improvement.
Mayor Rob Hammond gave a brief review of the evaluation after a closed session which lasted over an hour at the end of the regular meeting.
All of the council members had previously ‘graded’ Bailey in 11 areas, including things such as knowledge, professionalism and ethics.
Mayor Hammond had taken the individual reviews and compiled them into one, including any comments from each councilman.
“During the closed session I read the average of the scores as well as the highs and lows,” the mayor said in an interview with the Faribault County Register after the meeting. “I also read any comments that each councilman may have made.”
After that, the mayor allowed each councilman to make further verbal comments on each of the categories. Administrator Bailey was also given the opportunity to respond, the mayor says.
“The one area of concern for the council was communication,” Hammond says. “Communication from the administrator to the council, as well as communication from the council to the administrator.”
The mayor says both Bailey and the council agreed to work on getting information out.
“We agreed to look for areas for more information exchange and what changes are needed,” he says. “But, by and large, the evaluation was very satisfactory.”
