Roverud now area public defender
For the past nine months he’s been driving north to Mankato to make sure people receive proper representation in court.
Now, defense attorney Brian Roverud of Blue Earth is taking his legal skills west — to Martin and Jackson counties.
He’s been hired as a part-time public defender in the Fifth Judicial District and has already been assigned some cases.
“It’s definitely going to keep me busy. I’ll be handling mostly felonies and gross misdemeanors,” says Roverud.
Despite his new duties, the former Faribault County Attorney plans to continue working at the Calvin P. Johnson Law Firm in Mankato.
Scott Cutcher, the district’s chief public defender based in Mankato, says the resignation of a full-time attorney and closing of the public defender’s office in Fairmont made it necessary to hire someone.
“I’m thrilled and delighted to have Brian on board. He will be a great addition to our office,” says Cutcher.
Roverud was among 68 who applied for five part-time positions to be filled in the Fifth Judicial District, which covers 15 counties that includes Faribault County.
