Road construction ahead

By Staff | Jul 7, 2013

One cannot drive more than a few blocks in Blue Earth without seeing a barricade or detour sign.

Construction on several road improvement projects is in full swing.

On Highway 169, crews are busy installing underground utilities and removing old pavement from the bridge over the Blue Earth River to the north to the Seventh Street intersection to the south.

The detour starts at the intersection by McDonald’s and ends by going around the east side of Kwik Trip.

However, local traffic can cross the highway at the Fifth Street intersection. Access can also be gained to most businesses on the highway through either the back alleys or by the side streets.

Crews have just 60 days to complete the new roundabout at the Seventh Street intersection. Then it will open up while the rest of the highway reconstruction is completed.

Meanwhile, other crews are busy with utility and street work on Highland Drive, with limited access in and out of the dead end street on the west side of Blue earth.

Crews were also slated this past week to put the final ‘lift’ of pavement onto Gorman and 12th streets a project that was completed last summer.

Check the Faribault County Register website at www.faribaultcountyregister.com for more information on the detours and maps of the alternate routes around the city.
