By Staff | Oct 13, 2013

The bright morning sun last Tuesday was the cause for a truck/train accident near Marna, a few miles east of Blue Earth, at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Lowell Robert Flohrs, 66, Fairmont, was driving a semi-truck/trailer combination north on County Road 13. According to a report from the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Flohrs stopped at the railroad crossing and then started to cross the tracks.

However, due to the sun, Flohrs didn’t see a Union Pacific train coming eastbound on the tracks and the train hit the back of the semi-trailer, causing ‘substantial property damage, according to the report.

The trailer was empty at the time of the accident.

According to Sheriff Mike Gormley, Flohrs was not injured in the accident.

Emergency units assisting at the accident were the Frost Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Blue Earth Ambulance Service.

The accident remains under investigation by the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.
