Join the fun in Blue Earth July 8
Running may not be your thing, but that does not mean you cannot be an encouraging side-line participant in the Giant Days Giant and Sprout?Run set to take place July 7 and 8.
The Faribault County Fitness Center is proud to sponsor a Giant 4K run/walk and 10K Run, as well as a one-mile kids Sprout Run as one of many Blue Earth’s Giant Days events.
The Giant Run will take place Saturday, July 8, at 3:15 p.m. starting at First Bank Blue Earth and going North by running in the shade of the Unity Trail and will end on Main Street just before the parade is set to take place.
“We are hoping that the Main Street businesses and residents will help cheer the runners on,” says Michelle Hall. “Some ideas might be making signs to post in your windows or yards, turning on a sprinkler at the edge of your yard for runners to run through to cool off, having a yard party to cheer on runners, or come up with your own great ideas. Help make this a fun, encouraging event.”
Hall also says she and the race committee will need volunteers to help control traffic at the corners of the race route as well.
“So if you have business shirts and a group of people to volunteer, it would be a great way to promote yourself. Please let me know if anyone is willing to help out.”
The registration fee to participate is $25 on the day of the event. Race Day registration closes at 2:30 p.m.
Tell your family and friends to come cheer the runners and stay to enjoy the Giant Days Parade.
The Blue Earth Fire Department will be spraying water at the end of the route if anyone needs a cool off.
Anderson Race Management is set to be the official finish line timers with computer results.
Your little sprouts are encouraged to participate, too. A one-mile Sprout Run will be held on Friday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Giant Park in Blue Earth as a part of the Giant Days Giant Dance Party.
Registration for the Sprout Run is $10. Age groups include five and six-year-olds, seven and eight-year olds, nine and ten-year olds, 11 and 12-year olds, and teenagers ages 13 to 15. Trophies for top male and female will be awarded for each age group.
No pets will be allowed during either race for safety concerns.

So whether you’re ready and set to run the race, or are proudly supporting your friends and family from the streets with signs and sprinklers, a good time is sure to be had by everyone who enjoys the Giant and Sprout Run.
