While residents of the Blue Earth Area School District have been wondering what is going to be the outcome of the incident involving four football players allegedly assaulting a teammate at a party at a home in Winnebago back on Oct. 19, not much new information has been officially released.

BEA superintendent Evan Gough did confirm last week that the matter is still under investigation and that he cannot comment about any ongoing investigation.

“There is an investigation and the school is working with local law enforcement,” Gough said. “The Winnebago Police Department is taking the lead on this investigation.”

Gough added that the School District is very limited on what information they can release at this time. But they are taking the whole issue very seriously, including the concerns about bullying incidents at the school.

Meanwhile, the two adults charged in the assaultcase, Dalton Nagel, 18, and Wyatt Tungland, 18, will be making their second appearance in Faribault County District Court on Monday, Dec. 11.

Two other Blue Earth Area students, both juveniles, were also arrested and charged in juvenile court.

One of the major questions remains the timeline of the events of the case. While the alleged assault was on Oct. 19, it was not reported by the victim’s parents until Nov. 6. And, while school officials were alerted to the incident prior to the Blue Earth Area state football tournament game on Friday, Nov. 10, the football players now accused in the incident played in the game, according to reports.

The players were not arrested until a week after the game, on Friday, Nov. 17, and charged on Monday, Nov. 20.

While Gough said he cannot speak about the investigation itself, he did indicate that no action is being taken on anything until a full investigation is complete.
