Vandalism at BE cemetery

By Staff | Jun 3, 2018

This monument is missing a rose quartz piece, which used to be on right side of the headstone.

There was a recent case of vandalism which occurred at the Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

According to Blue Earth Chief of Police Tom Fletcher, the incident took place between May 27 and May 28. Five flower thefts were reported, as well as two headstone thefts.

While a hook was removed from one of the headstones, a decorative rose quartz rock was pried off of another headstone. Chief Fletcher reported the police department does not have any suspects at this time.

Riverside Cemetery manager and Blue Earth native Dean Jahnke says this was one of the worst cases of vandalism he has seen in his 20 years as manager.

“Stealing from the dead is a pretty low thing to do. I sure hope they find whoever did this,” Jahnke said.

Anybody with information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Blue Earth Police Department at (507)-526-5959.
