A giant, green…mustache?
He has always been pretty clean shaven, but shortly the Green Giant statue in Blue Earth will be sprouting some facial hair.
A giant-sized mustache, to be specific.
“The mustache is being constructed by John Hansen,” says Blue Earth Chamber of Commerce executive director Cindy Lyon. “It is all part of our participating with B&G, the company that owns the Green Giant logo.”
B&G and the Blue Earth Chamber are partnering to give the Giant a mustache as part of the Movember Foundation’s program of urging men not to shave in November in order to promote awareness of, and raise funds for, men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Both the company’s iconic logo of the Green Giant, as well as the statue in Blue Earth, will soon have a nice ‘stache on their upper lip.
The Giant statue’s mustache is expected to be in place by Movember first. And it will weigh 15 pounds and be installed by the crew from Blue Earth Light and Water.
But, that is not all according to Lyon.
“We are having a contest to find the giantest, best mustache in Faribault County,” she explains. “Men can take a selfie of themselves shaved by Nov. 1 and then on Nov. 29, at 5 p.m., at the new Welcome Center, we will have a ‘Face-Off’ to determine the winner of the best mustache in the county.”
On Nov. 30, there will be a Mustache Party to announce the winner. There will be a Giant prize, of course, as well as all the fame that comes with having the best mustache in Faribault County.
Oh, and a chance to pose for a photo with the Giant himself.
There will also be a chance for everyone to donate to the Movember Foundation, should they choose to do so.
