Board member resigns
In an email received by the Blue Earth Area School District dated April 22, Jeremy Coxworth officially resigned his position as a Blue Earth Area School Board member.
The email from Coxworth stated, “With my expanding business, I don’t have the time to be fully committed to my position on the School Board. Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the School Board.”
Coxworth’s current term expires on Dec. 31, 2020.
According to Minnesota State Statute, the vacancy must be filled by board appointment at a regular or special meeting. The appointment shall be evidenced by a resolution entered in the minutes and shall be effective 30 days following adaptation of the resolution.
According to interim BEA school superintendent, Dr. Jerry Jensen, the board will first appoint a temporary replacement and then, because the vacancy occurred more than 90 days prior to the normal election day in November, a special election to fill the vacancy must be held no later than the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of this year.
The person elected at the special election will take office immediately following the oath of office and fill out the remainder of Coxworth’s term.
A special school board meeting will be held on Monday, April 29, to formally accept Coxworth’s resignation and to determine the process for appointing a replacement.
The board will also consider appointing a different board member to replace Coxworth as a member of the Southern Plains Education Coop board.
