An oasis in your backyard

Ozz Landscaping, out of eastern Faribault County has over 30 years of experience in landscaping. They cover anything from shrubs to patios to retaining walls.

Dave Osmundson and his son, Michael have been doing landscaping work that speaks for itself. Their business, Ozz Landscaping, formerly known in Iowa as Landscaping by Design, recently moved its location to Minnesota Lake two years ago, and have been meeting a plethora of landscaping needs for local families for close to 30 years.

From patios to retaining walls, laying rock, sod, or introducing shrubbery to your home’s landscape, Dave Osmundson says he’s got you covered. Osmundson says he started landscaping projects when he was fairly young and helped out at the Easton Nursery. He also helped his father do some farming around the area, and when farming became slow, that’s when he stepped up his landscaping skills and business.

“I’ve been doing this all my life and I just love doing it,” he says. “My son joined me in my business two years ago, and we’ve been busy and still growing ever since. We have projects as far south as Spirit Lake, Iowa, far north as the Twin Cities, we’ve done projects in Rochester and pretty much everywhere in between. I think these past few years, we’ve seen an increase in people wanting their retaining walls redone, getting stone patios and driveways, stone fire pits. That seems to be popular right now, but we do everything. We do it all.”

And their work speaks for itself. Ozz Landscaping has received many complimentary reviews on their Facebook page, and while those are certainly nice, Dave says its the word of mouth that has gotten business booming.

“My work sells itself,” he says. “I love doing this stuff. Being able to make someone’s home look brand new or greatly improved is something you can’t put a price tag on.”

For households interested in doing a landscaping project, Dave says it is important to put a good chunk of money into savings before you start digging.

“If you’re in a new home and are looking to have say, a stone patio, retaining wall, shrubbery, rock and sod, I’d suggest putting at least $15,000 to $20,000 aside for a project of that size,” he says. “Something smaller, you may want to think somewhere around $5,000 to $7,000.”

But the good news is, no matter how large or small your project is, Dave says Ozz Landscaping will come to your home for a free estimate, with no obligation to purchase.

“This is what we do and why we love doing it,” says Dave. “We want to make sure your yard is an oasis you can escape to. We want to have just as much pride in your home landscape as you do. Call us, we are open year round, though things do slow in winter and I guess spring since it just snowed a bit. We are here to help.”

The father and son duo have done numerous projects both large and small from patios, fire pits and driveways, to garden paths, retaining walls, and lakeside landscape features.

When it comes to maintaining your landscape, Dave says there are a few helpful tips.

“When it comes to shrubs, you will want to trim either in early spring, or late fall,” he says. “When it comes to replenishing your mulch or rock, update mulch in late fall after summer has faded its color. With rock, it doesn’t really move around a lot like mulch might, but you will want to make sure you are maintaining the lining underneath to deter weeds from growing in rips or tears in the lining.”
