The Wells Swimming Pool will be closing a little earlier than expected this summer, Wells City Council members learned at their meeting on Monday, Aug. 9.

“We have moved the closing date to Sunday, Aug. 22,” street foreman Mike Pyzick announced. “Due to kids going back to college and sports starting up at the high school, we are faced with a lack of staffing.”

During the council meeting a public hearing was held concerning the plans to replat a portion of the City Center addition.

It was explained the re-plat is being done to realign the interior lot lines of Lots 3-6 of Block 1 and Lots 1-6 of Block 2. The realignment simply changes the angle of the lot lines to be perpendicular to the Third Avenue right-of-way.

The council also discussed a recommendation from the Park Board to name the baseball field at Thompson Park “Pat Frank Field.”

After being assured by City Attorney David Frundt there was no problem in doing so, the council voted to approve naming the baseball field “Pat Frank Field.”

The council also dealt with a number of personnel matters including accepting the resignations of Bridgette Holl as the Flame Theatre manager and Kevin Huper as the library clerk.

The hiring of Amanda Buendorf as a part-time library clerk was approved. Her pay will be $12.39 per hour.

Also approved was the hiring of Freeborn Milks as a part-time liquor store clerk at $10.50 per hour.

The next meeting of the Wells City Council is scheduled for Sept. 13.
