Jacob John Friedrichs fled into the 4x4 Truck and Auto Parts salvage yard north of Winnebago on Jan 18. Almost a dozen officers surrounded the area. Friedrichs was later captured and taken into custody by the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office.

An hour-long manhunt at the 4×4 Truck and Auto Parts salvage yard located north of Winnebago resulted in the capture of a man wanted on felony warrants.

About a dozen law enforcement vehicles were involved in the incident, which happened Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 18.

The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2003 blue Jeep Liberty sport vehicle, registered to a party from Granada, as it entered the 4×4 Truck and Auto Parts location. The jeep was pulling a second vehicle, a Dodge pickup, without lights.

A passenger in the Jeep vehicle, identified as Jacob John Friedrichs, bailed out of the Jeep and fled. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Michael Paul Schugel, of Mankato, remained in the vehicle.

Law enforcement vehicles and officers surrounded the salvage yard and nearby woods. A canine officer and drones were also used in the search for Friedrichs. The search took an hour due to the surrounding wooded area and the hundreds of old vehicles at the salvage yard.

Friedrichs was located hiding in an old camper and was captured without incident and taken into custody by the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office.

Other agencies involved in the incident included the Faribault County Sheriff’s Department, Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department, Amboy Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
