USC announces hiring of new principal
Public reminded to consider running for School Board positions

Jennifer Bye has been hired to be the new high school principal at United South Central.
The United South Central School Board only needed about 15 minutes to tackle everything on their agenda at their meeting on Tuesday night, July 19.
The first item of business after approving the minutes and the treasurer’s report was the introduction of Jennifer Bye, who has been hired to be the district’s next high school principal.
“I am thrilled and excited,” Bye said. “I can’t wait to help move the district forward.”
Bye steps into the role after being a math teacher in the district.
“Jen has been a leader in the district as a teacher and as an advocate for the teachers and the students,” superintendent Keith Fleming commented. “I look forward to working with her.”
The board then moved to approve Bye’s contract which calls for an annual base salary of $93,000.
In other personnel matters, the board also approved contracts for seventh and eighth grade science teacher Kara Christianson, custodian Santee Turner and head wrestling coach Eric Wegner.
Board member Dale Stevermer reminded those in attendance the filing date to run for the school board opens on Aug. 2 and closes on Aug. 16. Three positions are up for election this fall.
The board also:
• Approved the district’s participation in the National School Lunch Program for the 2022-23 school year.
• Voted to increase adult meal prices by five cents.
• Approved milk and bread bids while also approving breakfast, lunch and milk prices.
