Surprises in local filings

The filing period for candidates interested in city council and school board positions, as well as other local offices, closed last Tuesday, Aug. 16.

A number of positions in Faribault County will be contested on the Nov. 8 General Election Ballot, as more persons filed than the number of open seats available.

Here is a rundown on all the filings in the county.

School Boards

USC School District

There were three open seats on the United South Central School Board, and three persons filed ­- none of them incumbents.

Filing were Diana Brooks, Katie Hanson and Brittany Voigt.

BEA School District

The Blue Earth Area School Board had four open seats, and five persons filed to run in the election.

Filing were incumbents Stacey Beyer, Sara Hauskins and Kyle Zierke, as well as Mark Franta and Corey R. Walter.

City Councils

Blue Earth had five open seats on the council, and five persons filed for those positions.

Incumbents Ann Hanna and Dan Ristau, as well as Jacque Drew, filed for the full-term council seats, while Michael McNerney and Stephanie Walter filed for the special election for the two open 2-year term seats.

Bricelyn will have contested races for mayor and council.

Both William Hagen and Dan R. Klingbeil filed for mayor. Four persons filed for the two open council seats. They are Harold Albrant, Jason M. Anderson, Wesley Annable and Douglas Ellickson.

Delavan will also have contested races on the ballot Nov. 8.

Daniel C. Haugh and Gary T. Leach both filed for the mayor position, while six persons filed for the two open regular council seats. They are Brandon Hoehle, Cory Robert Hruza, April Kruse, John L. Martin, Megan Morrison and Lisa Schultz.

Five persons filed for the Delavan council seat being filled by a special election. They are Brady Bleess, David Gaydon, Chris Kruse, Gayle M. Parish and Josh Stauffer.

Easton has one person filing for mayor, Bryant Stiernagle, and three running for the two open council seats. They are Gayle Heise, Elijah Lippert and Jennifer Stiernagle.

Elmore has no contested races, as Clara Vereide is running unopposed for mayor, and two people, Lorman Jahnke and Jen Williams, filed for the two open council seats.

Frost has Brian (Bob) Loge running unopposed for mayor, and three people running for two open council positions. They are Jeff Fuchs, Elise Volz and Marvin Yahnke.

Kiester has a contest for mayor, with both Richard Goggin and Douglas E. Trytten filing for the position. Two persons filed for the two open council seats – Larry A. Dahleen and Jason Kluender.

Minnesota Lake does not have any contested races. Jeffery Ramsley is running unopposed for mayor and Joan Proehl and Richard Staloch are running for the two open council positions.

Walters had no one file for either the mayor position or two open seats on the Walters City Council.

Wells has one candidate for mayor, David J. Braun, but there are three persons who filed for the two open council seats. The three are Crystal Dulas, John P. Herman and Kristy Neubauer.

Winnebago has one contested race for city council. In a special election to fill a council seat, three people filed. They are Chris Anderson, Corey Ehlers and Anthony (Tony) Potter.

The other two council seats had two people file – Paul Michael Eisenmenger and Calvin Howard.

Scott Robertson was the only person to file for mayor.

Township Boards

Barber Township – Larry Paul filed for supervisor and Yvonne Cory filed for town clerk.

Blue Earth City Township – Joshua Nuessmeier filed for supervisor and Edie Smith filed for treasurer.

Kiester Township – Lonnie Burkow filed for supervisor seat A, Randy LaCore for supervisor seat B, Jolynn Bloomingdale for town clerk and David Obermeyer for town treasurer.

Verona Township – Neal Mensing filed for supervisor seat A, Doug Hill for supervisor seat C and Donald Selvig for treasurer.

Blue Earth Board

of Public Works

Only one person, Dan Mensing, filed to run for the two open seats on the Blue Earth Board of Public Works.

Hospital District Board

There were several persons who filed to run for the United Hospital District Board.

Jeannette Eichhorn filed for the Elmore District, Judith D. Haaland filed for Emerald Township District, Bill Carr filed for Pilot Grove Township District and Joanne Hoffman filed for the Winnebago District.

No one filed to run for the Elmore Township, Jo Daviess Township or Verona Township districts open UHD board seats.
