County offices temporarily relocated

By Kevin Mertens - Staff Writer | Oct 2, 2022

County offices, such as the Assessor’s Office, above, have relocated temporarily due to renovations at the courthouse.

The Faribault County Courthouse HVAC (Heating, ventilation, air conditioning) renovation project is well underway and has created the necessity for various offices to relocate to other locations while the work is being done.

Here is what you need to know to find various offices.

The Faribault County Assessor’s Office has been temporarily relocated to the old jail located west of the courthouse. Enter the building from Nicollet Street.

The probation office has been permanently relocated to the former jail.

If you are looking for the Central Services office you will find it in the Human Services annex on the ground level. It is suggested you enter the building through the Human Services entrance.

The office of the Court Administrator has temporarily been moved to the Law Enforcement Center.

In December or January, the current plan calls for the auditor and treasurer’s offices to move across the hall into the former probation office and the County Recorder’s office will relocate downstairs to the law library.

Moving people into different offices was just the start of what needed to be done before the renovation project could begin.

Thousands of documents stored in the courthouse basement had to be packed up and removed prior to any work being done.

“A lot of the documents went to the Minnesota State Historical Society and others went to the Faribault County Historical Society,” chief deputy auditor Jessica Blair explained. “It was amazing how many records were stored in the courthouse.”

Some of the offices will not move back to their offices until the completion of the project which is expected to be in June of next year.

It is also possible the County Commissioners may have to hold one or two meetings at a different location but nothing has been decided yet.

“Thankfully, the auditor and treasurer’s offices should not have to move until after the election and tax season are over,” Blair said.
