Local elections have a few surprises
Close race for Kiester mayor, tie vote for Bricelyn Council & more
A number of positions on Faribault County city councils, township boards and school boards were on the General Election Ballot this past Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Some were contested and some were not.
Here is a rundown on most of the election results for Faribault County.
School Boards
USC School District
There were three open seats on the United South Central School Board, and three persons were on the ballot and all three were elected.
Brittany Voigt received 1,888 votes, Katie Hanson had 1,726 votes and Diana Brooks had 1,573 votes. There were 30 write-ins.
BEA School District
The Blue Earth Area School Board had four open seats, and five persons were on the ballot on Tuesday.
Mark Franta tallied the most votes with 2,486, or 24.3 percent of the vote.
Sara Hauskins had 2,283 votes or 22.31 percent, Kyle Zierke had 2,163 votes or 21.14 percent, Stacey Beyer had 2,150 votes or 21.01 percent and Corey R. Walter had 1,102 votes or 10.77 percent.
Franta, Hauskins, Zierke, and Beyer were elected.
City Councils
Blue Earth had five open seats on the council, and five persons filed for those positions and were on the ballot.
Elected to full terms were Dan Ristau with 1,108 votes, Jacque Drew with 819 votes and Ann Hanna with 934 votes. There were 50 write-in votes. Elected to two year terms were Mike McNerney with 1,088 votes and Stephanie Walter with 743 votes. There were 19 write-in votes.
Bricelyn had contested races for mayor and council.
Dan R. Klingbeil was elected mayor with 84 votes or 63.64 percent, to William Hagen’s 42 votes or 31.82 percent. There were three write-ins.
In the city council race, there were two open positions. Jason M. Anderson was the highest vote getter with 65 votes, but there was a tie for second with Harold Albrant and Douglas Ellickson each getting 59.
Wesley Annable had had 45 votes and there were six write-ins.
Delavan also had contested races on the ballot Nov. 8.
Daniel C. Haugh was elected mayor with 62 votes to 19 for Gary T. Leach, for a 76.54 to 23.46 percent margin.
Five persons were on the ballot for the two open regular council seats in Delavan.
Megan Morrison was the top vote getter with 47 votes, while April Kruse was second with 37.
Brandon Hoehle had 35 votes, Cory Robert Hruza had 22 and John L. Martin had 15.
Six people were on the ballot to fill the one council seat in a special election.
David Gaydon won the election with 27 votes. Chris Kruse had 25 votes, Josh Stauffer and Brady Bleess each had 11, Lisa Schultz eight and Gayle M. Parish had no votes. There were no write-ins.
Easton had one person running for mayor, Bryant Stiernagle, and he received 80 votes and there were nine write-ins.
Three names were on the ballot for two open council seats.
Gayle Heise was the top vote getter with 72 votes and Elijah Lippert was second with 55 votes. Jennifer Stiernagle received 38 votes.
Elmore had no contested races. Clara Vereide was elected mayor with 148 votes and there were eight write-ins, and Lorman Jahnke was elected to the council with 114 votes as was Jen Williams with 105 votes. There were 20 write-ins.
Frost had Brian (Bob) Loge running unopposed for mayor and he was elected with 75 votes and there were no write-ins.
Three people were running for two open council positions. Jeff Fuchs was elected with 71 votes and Elise Volz was elected with 69 votes.
Marvin Yahnke received 10 votes and there was one write-in.
Kiester had a contest for mayor on the ballot.
Douglas Trytten edged out current mayor Richard Goggin by four votes. Trytten had 103 votes to Goggin’s 99. Trytten is a former mayor of Kiester.
Two persons were on the ballot for the two open council seats. Jason Kluender had 168 votes and Larry A. Dahleen had 134 and both were elected. There were 16 write-ins.
Minnesota Lake did not have any contested races. Jeffery Ramsley was elected mayor with 251 votes and there were three write-ins, while Joan Proehl had 226 votes and Richard Staloch had 218 and both were elected to the council. There were nine write-ins.
Walters had no one file for either the mayor position or for two open seats on the Walters City Council.
There were 23 write-in votes for mayor and 28 write-in votes for the two council seats.
Wells had one candidate for mayor, David J. Braun, and two persons were on the ballot for the two open council seats.
Incumbent David Braun was elected mayor with 748 votes, and there were 22 write-in votes.
John P. Herman received 661 votes and Crystal Dulas had 576 votes. There were 19 write-ins.
Winnebago had one contested race for city council. In a special election to fill a council seat, three people were on the ballot. Chris Anderson was elected with 266 votes. Anthony (Tony) Potter had 100 votes and Corey Ehlers had 83. There were 20 write-in votes cast.
The other two council seats had two people on the ballot and so both were elected. Calvin Howard received 397 votes and Paul Michael Eisenmenger 359.
Scott Robertson was the only person to file for mayor and was re-elected with 399 votes. There were 22 write-in votes.
Township Boards
Barber Township – Larry Paul was elected town supervisor with 115 votes and Yvonne Cory was elected town clerk with 114 votes.
Blue Earth City Township – Joshua Nuessmeier was elected supervisor with 187 votes and Edie Smith was elected treasurer with 190 votes.
Kiester Township – Lonnie Burkhow was elected supervisor seat A with 109 votes, Randy LaCore elected supervisor seat B, with 110 votes, Jolynn Bloomingdale elected town clerk with 110 votes and David Obermeyer elected town treasurer with 109 votes.
A question of moving the Kiester Township election from November to March narrowly passed, 58 to 53.
Verona Township – Neal Mensing was elected supervisor seat A with 141 votes, Doug Hill for supervisor seat C with 148 votes and Donald Selvig for treasurer with 153 votes.
Blue Earth Board of Public Works
Dan Mensing and Mark Loge were the two on the ballot for the two open seats on the Blue Earth Board of Public Works. Mensing received 1,077 votes and Loge 1,022 votes.
Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors
Michael Humburg received 5,263 votes for supervisor District 2, Randall Feist 5,237 votes for supervisor District 3 and Bill Anderson 5,236 votes for supervisor District 5.
Hospital District Board
There were several persons who filed to run for the United Hospital District Board.
Jeannette Eichhorn received 149 votes for the Elmore District, Judith D. Haaland received 116 votes for Emerald Township District, Bill Carr received 53 votes for Pilot Grove Township District and Joanne Hoffman received 445 votes for the Winnebago District.
No one filed to run for the Elmore Township, Jo Daviess Township or Verona Township districts’ open UHD board seats, but there were several write-in votes in each of those districts.
