The Blue Earth Chamber of Commerce is beginning a search for a new executive director.

Current executive director Shellie Poetter informed the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors back in early March of her intent to resign from her position on June 3.

“For the remaining time until June, I’ll do everything possible to wrap up my duties and be available to aid a new director during the transition,” Poetter told the board members.

An ad for the executive director position is running in this week’s Faribault County Register. It describes the duties of the full time position. It also requests letters of application and resumes be sent in by April 30.

The board hopes to have a person hired before June 3, so that person can work with Poetter for a period of time and learn the position.

The Chamber is also running an ad to find a part time administrative assistant for 20-25 hours per week.

Poetter says she appreciates the time spent in the executive director position.

“I will cherish the valuable experience I gained through serving as the Chamber director,” she said in her letter to the board. “I wish the Chamber nothing but success, and I hope to keep in touch in the future.”

Poetter was first hired as the administrative assistant in 2017, then was hired as the executive director in 2020, replacing Emily (Lang) Davis who had resigned as executive director in 2020.

Davis had been hired in 2019 when Cindy Lyon had resigned the position after having served as executive director since 2011.

“The Chamber was very fortunate to have Shellie take the lead during an extremely difficult time,” Chamber Board president Megan Hanson-Haase says. “She gracefully maneuvered through COVID times, coming out on the other side with a positive attitude and willingness to take on new adventures. Her leadership and energy has made her an asset to the entire community, and we are so thankful for her years as executive director.”

Hanson-Haase adds that the Chamber is moving forward in a manner that will hopefully continue Poetter’s successful tenure and provide a smooth transition to a new era at the Giant Welcome Center and Chamber of Commerce.
