BEA pitcher Kylee Eckmann prepares to fire the ball to home plate during the Bucs’ game against JCC on May 1.

One day after losing to the Jackson County Central Huskies on their home field, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers’ softball team traveled to Jackson on Tuesday, May 2, for a rematch.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, the Huskies once again were the victors, defeating BEA 14-2 in five innings.

Just like the first time they met, it was a big second inning by the Huskies that put the game out of reach for the Bucs.

After scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning, JCC added nine more runs to their total in the second inning and four runs in the fourth inning.

The Bucs scored single runs in the third and fifth innings and only had two hits in the game, both by catcher Reagan Machacek.

With Kylee Eckmann missing the game because of illness, Olivia Dutton handled all of the pitching duties and was charged with the loss.

BEA played a doubleheader at Pipestone on Thursday, May 4. They return to the 14th Street Softball Field in Blue Earth on Monday, May 8, to host Medford in a non-conference game.

The Jackson County Central Huskies erupted for 11 runs in the top of the second inning on their way to a five-inning, 15-1 victory over the host Blue Earth Area Buccaneers on Monday, May 1.

After a scoreless first inning, the Huskies found their hitting groove and took advantage of a couple of mistakes by the Bucs to take a double-digit lead.

JCC added three more runs to their total in the top of the fourth inning and one more in the top of the fifth inning.

The Huskies finished with 21 hits while the Bucs could only manage two hits during the game. Olivia Dutton had one of BEA’s hits. Berkley Hagedorn had the other.

BEA scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Dutton and Kylee Eckmann shared pitching duties with Dutton getting charged with the loss.

Extra Innings

It took nine innings, but BEA defeated Redwood Valley 9-8 to pick up their first win of the season.

The Bucs, who were the home team on the scoreboard for the second game, were leading 8-5 heading into the top of the seventh inning.

However, the Cardinals rallied for three runs to tie the score and send the game into extra innings.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning and BEA kept Redwood Valley off the scoreboard in the top of the ninth inning.

Reagan Machacek led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Taylor Klabunde hit into a fielder’s choice to force out Machacek at second base.

Lily Olson was up next and singled to center field to put runners on first and second base.

Klabunde stole third base and Olson swiped second base to put both runners in scoring position with one out.

Kyla Roiger was intentionally walked to load the bases and create a force out at home.

The Cardinals got the second out on a strike out.

With the bases still loaded, Kylee Eckmann singled to bring home Klabunde with the winning run.

BEA had opened the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added another run in the bottom of the second inning and three more runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Each team had 17 hits in the game.

Eckmann had four hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs.

Ashlyn Klinkner drove in three runs. She had two hits, a double and a triple.

Reagan Machacek had three hits for the Bucs while Claire Sullivan and Klabunde each had two.

Eckmann pitched all nine innings for BEA and was credited with the win. She gave up 17 hits and was charged with eight runs, seven earned. She walked two batters and struck out six.
