The Faribault County Board of Commissioners held a short meeting on Thursday, Sept. 28, to make sure the county was able to receive $65,209 in grant money from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Commissioner Bill Groskreutz attended the meeting by Zoom and commissioner Tom Loveall was not able to be present at the meeting.

“This grant comes from the Office of Justice Programs,” acting coordinator Mark Daly explained. “It is for 2024 and goes to the Crime Victim Services unit of the county attorney’s office.”

The County Board first had to pass a motion to accept the grant before passing a resolution authorizing the county coordinator and county attorney Cameron Davis to sign for the grant.

“I really appreciate you meeting on somewhat short notice to get this done,” Davis explained. “We were just informed last Friday that the resolution we have had in place since 2019 needed to be tweaked a little and the deadline is Oct. 2. So, again I appreciate you meeting to take care of this. This grant is important for our office’s budget.”

The board was also introduced to the new county coordinator, Brian Hov, who will begin his duties on Oct. 2, and to the newly appointed auditor/treasurer Amy Sathoff.

Sathoff’s scheduled first day on the job is Oct. 16.
