Suspected arson call near Easton on Oct. 13
An Easton man was taken into custody last week after a house, garage and car fire were discovered in rural Lura Lake Township on Friday, Oct. 13, at 6:27 p.m., according to a report from the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.
The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check and potential structure fire at 20061 460th Ave. in rural Easton. They discovered three separate large fires at the scene, including the residence, the garage and two vehicles.
Steven Gray, 63, of Easton, was located at the scene and taken into custody for 1st Degree Arson (dwelling), 1st Degree Arson (other buildings) and 1st Degree Arson (flammable material).
Gray was taken into custody without incident and is being held pending initial arraignment.
Responding fire departments were able to suppress and gain control of the fires within two hours of the initial call. However, the house, garage and vehicles were all considered to be a total loss as a result of the fires.
Faribault County deputies and Easton firefighters remained on the scene for some time until further investigation could be conducted.
Assisting the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Easton Fire Department, Wells Fire Department, Delavan Fire Department, Minnesota Lake Fire Department, Wells Ambulance Service, Minnesota State Fire Marshall and the Minnesota State Patrol.
