The mayor of Winnebago and his son were arrested on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 8, and booked into the Faribault County Jail.

Scott James Robertson and his son, Jacob Jon Robertson, were expected to be charged in Faribault County District Court on Friday, Feb. 9.

The arrests were made by officers of the South Central Minnesota Drug Task Force and the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sgt. Benjamin Johnson of the Owatonna Police Department and commander of the drug task force the arrests were made after a search warrant operation was conducted at three addresses in Winnebago and the Winnebago area.

The two men were then arrested for offenses related to the cultivation of marijuana.

Numerous items of evidence were seized, according to a release from the South Central Drug Investigation Unit. Agents and deputies located approximately 240 plants believed to be marijuana, as well as numerous items of evidence and property.

According to Sgt. Johnson, this ongoing investigation began in early 2023 and has been a collaboration between SCDIU, the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Faribault County Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.

Scott Robertson is serving his second term as mayor of Winnebago. He was first elected as a write-in candidate in 2020 and took office in January of 2021, replacing former mayor Jeremiah Schutt. Schutt had decided not to run again after having served three terms.

Robertson was re-elected in the last election in November of 2022. He had also previously served for eight years on the Winnebago City Council before his terms as mayor.
